Iowa  vs  Northwestern   Northwestern

W    49 - 13

Head Coach: Hayden Fry

Redshirt freshman QB Matt Sherman stole the show in his first start, completing 19 of 24 passes for 331 yards. The Hawkeyes' 602 yards of total offense and five turnovers on defense brought back a glimpse of the past for Iowa coach Hayden Fry. It was Iowa's 21st straight win over the Wildcats.

Harold Jasper got things started in the first quarter when he reeled in a 26-yard pass, for his 100th career reception. While reaching the century mark was a milestone, Jasper's 101st catch was bigger. Two plays later, he made a diving grab in the end zone for the first score of the afternoon.

Free safety Bo Porter led the Hawks with 10 tackles, one interception, and his first career touchdown when he picked up a punt blocked by Jason House in the third quarter.

Sedrick Shaw rushed for 114 for the game, including a 19-yard touchdown run. He needs only 71 more yards to reach 1,000 yards on the season.

Ryan Terry gave the seniors' farewell an appropriate ending. He broke away and took the ball 71 yards for the Hawkeyes' final touchdown late in the game.

Iowa  @  Purdue   Purdue

T    21 - 21

Head Coach: Hayden Fry

Purdue took a 10-0 lead in the first half, as the Hawks had no answer for the powerful Purdue FB Mike Alstott, who rushed for 138 yards on 25 carries.

Iowa struggled to get a consistent offense going in the first half besides Kent Kahl's running. He ended the day with 108 yards on 21 carries. QB Mike Duprey scrambled away from pressure, but struggled to connect with receivers.

After the half, Shaw fumbled on the first possession, and Iowa failed to convert on 4th down around midfield. Purdue drove downfield and connected on another field goal, and led 13-0.

Duprey left the game with an eye injury in the 3rd quarter. Matt Sherman led the Hawkeyes to three fourth-quarter touchdown drives off the bench.

On the first play of the fourth quarter down 13-0 and facing 3rd and 8, Sherman connected with Willie Guy for a crucial 23-yard completion. Kahl completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Iowa trailed 13-7, then Bobby Diaco recovered a fumble on the Purdue 40. Tavian Banks ran 38-yards for a touchdown on the next play, and Iowa took a 14-7 lead. Iowa forced a punt, and was looking to score again, but Sherman fumbled on the 10-yard line. Iowa forced another punt, and Sedrick Shaw ran 39 yards for a score, putting Iowa up 21-13.

QB Billy Dicken moved Purdue down the field 80 yards with a long screen pass to Alstott and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brian Alford. Down 21-20, they went for two and Dicken scrambled and reached over the goal line as he was being tackled by Diaco, and it was ruled a conversion. The game was tied 21-21 with six minutes remaining. Iowa went for it on 4th and 1 on the Purdue 42, but was stopped.

Purdue drove down to Iowa territory behind a big run from Alstott, but stalled in the red zone. Brad Babich's 30-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left with seven seconds remaining in the game, and the game ended in a tie.

Iowa rushed for 310 yards on 41 carries, but was only 3 for 11 on passes for 46 yards. Iowa had 3 fumbles, and Purdue had 2.

Iowa  @  Illinois   Illinois

L    7 - 47

Head Coach: Hayden Fry

Somehow the injury list got even longer after this mismatch against the top-rated Illini defense. With Parker Wlideman as Iowa's only first-team defensive lineman available, the Hawkeyes looked helpless, giving up 478 total offensive yards. They also struggled on offense, with QB Mike Duprey being sacked 5 times during the game. They lost two more quarterbacks in the game when Duprey and Corby Smith left with injuries. Jefferson Bates came in, but was not able to throw very far. He did complete a 1-yard TD pass to punter/TE Nick Gallery for Iowa's only score late in the game.

The game was similar to last year's 49-3 loss to Illinois. Iowa has lost 5 straight conference games, repeating last year's feat.

Illinois kicker Chris Richardson made FGs of 52 and 48 yards, and Robert Holcombe rushed for 101 yards.

Iowa  vs  Indiana   Indiana

L    20 - 27

Head Coach: Hayden Fry

Hawks fumble on first series, which leads to an Alex Smith TD. As Indiana drove to another score, Billy Coats made an interception in the end zone. After the turnover, Hawks drive down to tie the game on a short TD run by Sedrick Shaw. The Indiana offense was able to move the ball on the ground behind Smith and QB John Paci. Indiana was ahead 14-7 and looking to score again, but was picked off a 2nd time in the end zone, this time by Marquis (Bo) Porter. The Hawks drove down to tie the game, but fumbled again. But Porter picked up another interception to get the ball back. QB Ryan Driscoll scrambled down to the Indiana 20-yard line, but fell on his shoulder, and would miss the rest of the season with a broken collar bone. With Matt Sherman out with a fractured foot, and Jefferson Bates nursing a sore elbow, 4th string QB Mike Duprey entered the game. The drive stalled on a missed 41-yard FG. Iowa was fortunate to only be down 7 points at halftime.

Indiana took a 21-7 lead after their first drive, aided by a successful fake FG. Tavian Banks returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards to the Indiana 25-yard line. Duprey hit Willie Guy for a 27-yard TD pass.

After holding the Hoosiers to a FG, the Hawks drove for a score, capped by a Tavian Banks 3-yard TD run, but Brion Hurley's PAT was missed. For the season, Iowa is 2 of 7 on field goal attempts and 16 of 21 on extra points.

Indiana would tack on a FG to lead 27-20. Iowa had a chance to win the game with 2:04 left, but Duprey's pass intended for Harold Jasper was intercepted.

Indiana's rushing was the key to the game, with over 300 yards as a team, and Smith ending with 232 yards on 43 carries. That set a new Kinnick Stadium record, breaking the previous high of 39 rushing attempts. It was the third straight homecoming loss for Iowa.

Iowa  vs  #7 Michigan   Michigan

L    14 - 29

Head Coach: Hayden Fry

Penalties killed Iowa all day and it was never able to get over the hump. After cutting the deficit to 22-14 on a 11-yard pass from Ryan Driscoll to Scott Slutzker, Iowa recovered the ensuing kickoff on Michigan's 29-yard line.

But two illegal procedure penalties and a blocked 40-yard FG attempt by Brion Hurley ended the comeback. Michigan drove down and added another touchdown after consuming six minutes off the clock.

The Iowa defense couldn't stop Tyrone Wheatley, as he rushed for 182 yards on 37 carries and two touchdowns.

Iowa  @  Oregon   Oregon

L    18 - 40

Head Coach: Hayden Fry

Iowa led early 12-7, but the Ducks scored 20 straight points in the 2nd quarter to take a 27-12 lead into halftime, mainly due to turnovers and good field position. They added 2 more touchdowns early in the 3rd quarter to put the game out of reach, leading 40-12. Oregon also blocked two PATs in the game.

Iowa QB Ryan Driscoll completed 16 of 37 passes for 255 yards, and was intercepted 3 times. The Hawks were penalized 10 times for 107 yards, and lost a fumble. Oregon had no turnovers.

One bright spot was a 68-yard TD punt return by Harold Jasper, that put Iowa ahead 12-7 in the first quarter. Hayden Fry's Iowa record against the Pac-10 fell to 3-7. It was the first Big Ten team to visit Oregon in 14 years.
