HIGH SCHOOL: Scott Slutzker attended Hasbrouck Heights High School and lived in or near Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. He excelled at three sports in high school, football, basketball and baseball, as he was a first-team all-league selection in both baseball and basketball his senior year and was an All-American in football. In basketball, he scored over 1,000 points (1,642) and grabbed over 1,000 rebounds (1,222). He received looks from professional baseball teams before deciding on football.

In football, he had 1,572 career receiving yards on 102 receptions with 14 touchdowns. He also recorded 171 tackles and had 16 interceptions (4 for touchdowns) and 14 fumble recoveries. He was named to North Jersey's All-time college football team, two-time All-county tight end (Bergen County) and earned All-state honors. He also played in the New Jersey North-South All-star Classic. As one of the top tight ends in the country, he chose Iowa over Notre Dame, Maryland, Duke, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

COLLEGE: After redshirting his first season in 1991, he finished with 91 catches for 1,195 yards and 5 TDs over his career, despite player under many different Iowa QBs. He earned all-Big Ten 2nd Team in 1995 and 3rd team in 1994. He was named the TV player of the game against No. 7 Michigan in 1994 and against No. 19 Penn State in 1995 after catching eight passes for 167 yards.

PROFESSIONAL: He was selected in the 3rd round by the Indianapolis Colts, where he played for 2 season. He was traded to the New Orleans Saints (1998–1999) and ended his career with the New York Jets in 2001. He took a flight on the morning of 9/11/2001 from Charlotte to Chicago to try out for the Bears.
