RECAP

Purdue took a 10-0 lead in the first half, as the Hawks had no answer for the powerful Purdue FB Mike Alstott, who rushed for 138 yards on 25 carries.

Iowa struggled to get a consistent offense going in the first half besides Kent Kahl's running. He ended the day with 108 yards on 21 carries. QB Mike Duprey scrambled away from pressure, but struggled to connect with receivers.

After the half, Shaw fumbled on the first possession, and Iowa failed to convert on 4th down around midfield. Purdue drove downfield and connected on another field goal, and led 13-0.

Duprey left the game with an eye injury in the 3rd quarter. Matt Sherman led the Hawkeyes to three fourth-quarter touchdown drives off the bench.

On the first play of the fourth quarter down 13-0 and facing 3rd and 8, Sherman connected with Willie Guy for a crucial 23-yard completion. Kahl completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Iowa trailed 13-7, then Bobby Diaco recovered a fumble on the Purdue 40. Tavian Banks ran 38-yards for a touchdown on the next play, and Iowa took a 14-7 lead. Iowa forced a punt, and was looking to score again, but Sherman fumbled on the 10-yard line. Iowa forced another punt, and Sedrick Shaw ran 39 yards for a score, putting Iowa up 21-13.

QB Billy Dicken moved Purdue down the field 80 yards with a long screen pass to Alstott and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brian Alford. Down 21-20, they went for two and Dicken scrambled and reached over the goal line as he was being tackled by Diaco, and it was ruled a conversion. The game was tied 21-21 with six minutes remaining. Iowa went for it on 4th and 1 on the Purdue 42, but was stopped.

Purdue drove down to Iowa territory behind a big run from Alstott, but stalled in the red zone. Brad Babich's 30-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left with seven seconds remaining in the game, and the game ended in a tie.

Iowa rushed for 310 yards on 41 carries, but was only 3 for 11 on passes for 46 yards. Iowa had 3 fumbles, and Purdue had 2.
