HIGH SCHOOL: Shonn Greene attended Winslow Township High School and lived in or near Atco, New Jersey. He rushed for 1,267 yards and 18 touchdowns in his junior year, earning first team all-conference, all-South Jersey, and all-state honors. In his senior year, he rushed for 1,378 yards and 16 touchdowns, earning first team all-conference and second team all-state. He committed to Iowa

COLLEGE: He played sparingly in his first two seasons. He missed the entire 2007 season due to academics, so he enrolled at nearby Kirkwood Community College, worked for a furniture company, and improved his grades.

He returned for the 2008 season, where he had a breakout season in 2008. He finished the season with 1850 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns. He rushed for at least 100 yards in each of the 13 games. He won the Doak Walker Award given to the nation's outstanding collegiate running back (the first Iowa player to win the award), and was recognized as a unanimous first-team All-American by numerous organizations. He also was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, and was the MVP of the Outback Bowl.

After the season, he announced he would enter the 2009 NFL Draft. Greene was the only player that year to rush for over 100 yards in every game. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round (65th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.

PROFESSIONAL: He played 6 seasons in the NFL, and rushed for over 1000 yards in both 2011 and 2012. He ended up with the Tennessee Titans for his last two seasons, but didn't get much playing time. In his NFL career, he rushed for 24 touchdowns and 4,110 yards, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.

OTHER: In 2024, he was inducted into the UI Athletics Hall of Fame.
