Ronnie Harmon      New York Wikipedia

Position(s): RB, WR

Ronnie Harmon attended Bayside High School and lived in New York City, New York. He was a consensus all-city football player. He played receiver during his first two seasons at Iowa, and running back in his last two, and he played both positions at an elite level. He is the only player in program history to finish his career with more than 2,000 receiving yards and 2,000 rushing yards.

He agreed to play receiver as a freshman and sophomore because there was already plenty of proven depth at running back. As a true freshman in 1982, Harmon caught two touchdown passes in Iowa’s 28-22 victory over Tennessee in the 1982 Peach Bowl, and as a sophomore, he led Iowa with six catches for 90 yards the 1983 Gator Bowl loss to Florida. He was well on his way to becoming one of the best receivers in program history when he switched back to running back as a junior in 1984.

He rushed for 2,219 yards on 428 carries and 22 touchdowns in his Iowa career, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He finished with 4,985 all-purpose yards. He was twice named First Team All-Big Ten (1984 and 1985).

After a standout career at the University of Iowa, Harmon was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the 1st round (16th overall) of the 1986 NFL Draft. He played for 12 seasons (1986-1997) in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers, Houston Oilers and Chicago Bears. In 1992 with the Chargers, he was Pro Bowl selection. He helped lead the Chargers to Super Bowl XXIX after the 1994 season, but they fell short in a 49-26 loss against the San Francisco 49ers, a game in which he led his team in receiving with 8 receptions for 68 yards.

Born 5/7/1964 and is 60 years old.

Hayden Fry Hayden Fry  from Iowa vs. UCLA on 1/1/1986 - Link to source
Ronnie Harmon ran as hard as anyone on the field when he had the ball. He fumbled one time the whole year before tonight. Ronnie is a great person, and he is very hurt right now. It happens to all great athletes at one time and it's a shame it happened in the Rose Bowl.

- Discussing Ronnie Harmon's 4 fumbles in the game.
