HIGH SCHOOL:
Ricchard Carter attended Passaic High School and lived in or near Passaic,
New Jersey. He was a state champion in the outdoor 100 and 200 meters in track, and owns the state record in the 60 meters at 6.3 seconds. He was a standout wide receiver, earning 2nd team all-county and all-league as a junior. He was named 2nd team all-state as a senior, and was the team MVP and captain. He caught 48 passes for 1,195 yards and had 147 career tackles and 7 interceptions as a defensive back, including 3 that were returned for touchdowns. He planned to run track and play football in college. He chose Iowa over Syracuse, Rutgers and Kansas.
COLLEGE: He redshirted in 1993, and was the scout team offensive MVP vs Indiana. He caught 19 passes for 301 yards and 2 TDs and had 1 rush for 16 yards for his career. Both TDs were scored during his senior season on passes from Randy Reiners, a 27-yard TD pass against UNI and a 26-yard TD pass in the 1997 Sun Bowl for Iowa's only score of the game.
