SUMMARY VIDEO

Big Ten Co-Champions and National Champions (Numerous)Big Ten Co-Champions and National Champions (Numerous)

Summary: The Hawkeyes were led by head coach Forest Evashevski, coaching in his 9th (and final) season. Iowa finished as co-Big Ten Conference champions with the Golden Gophers. They were also named National Champions by Berryman, Boand, Litkenhous, Sagarin, and Sagarin (ELO-Chess). The Golden Gophers were selected to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl, so the Hawkeyes season ended with no bowl invitation, and were ranked #3 in the final AP poll (before the bowl games). One article explains how Iowa should have ended #1 after Minnesota lost to #6 Washington in the Rose Bowl. The Hawkeyes played arguably one of the toughest schedules in their history. Of Iowa's 9 games, 8 came against ranked teams at the time. The one game that wasn't against a ranked team was on the road at Notre Dame.

Conference: Big Ten

Head Coach: Forest Evashevski
