Alfred 'Al' Hinton      Michigan

Alfred 'Al' Hinton attended Saginaw High School and lived in Saginaw, Michigan. He was named 2nd team All-Saginaw Valley and honorable mention All-state as a senior. In track, he broke the shot put record with a throw of 54-6 1/4 in 1958.

For three straight seasons at Iowa (1959-61), he was a fixture at right tackle, including starting every game his junior and senior seasons. In a 23-14 loss to Michigan in 1961, he had 16 tackles despite playing with a leg injury.

He earned All-Big Ten honors and was voted Iowa’s Most Valuable Player his senior season when he played both offensive tackle and defensive end. He was named to the All-America third team by the United Press International in 1961 and was also named to the Coaches All-American team.

The Dallas Texans drafted him in the 6th round of the 1962 draft, but he signed a contract to play football in the CFL, playing six years with Toronto, Winnipeg and Montreal.

After football, he would go on to become one of the country’s premier mixed-media artists and for nearly three decades he has been a tenured professor at the University of Michigan. He received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa Alumni Association in 2000.

Born 11/27/1940 and is 84 years old.
