Summary: It was maybe the worst season in Iowa history, as the Hawkeyes went winless in 11 games. With only 2 games that were within one score. Iowa had not gone winless since 1889, and no Big Ten team had gone 0-11 in 78 years of play.

Head coach Frank Lauterbur was fired before the season was over by athletic director Bump Elliot. Elliott was the father of Bobby Elliott, who was a player on the team.

The Hawkeyes defense failed them all year, giving up 36.5 points per game. The rushing defense was particularly bad giving up 3,883 yards rushing. Teams gained an average of 353 yards per game rushing on Iowa. The offense struggled as well averaging 12.7 points per game. In Iowa's last 5 games they only scored 14 points total in the first 3 quarters of all of those games. Most of their points came in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach.

Conference: Big Ten

Head Coach: Frank Lauterbur

Assistant Coaches: Jack Harbaugh, Howard Vernon, Dan McDonald
