Andre Jackson       

Andre Jackson attended Thornton Township High School in Dixmoor, Illinois. He joined the Iowa program as a walk-on, as he was lightly recruited due to high school knee injuries. He made an immediate impact for the Hawkeye defense, leading the team with 171 tackles as a freshman in 1972, setting the Iowa single-season record that still stands. He was put on scholarship the second semester of his freshman year. He was also named to the Football News’ Rookie All-America team and was the first freshman in the nation to twice earn wire service Lineman of the Week honors that season. Along with leading the team in tackles as a true freshman, Jackson also led the Hawkeyes in tackles as a senior, with 126 stops in 1975.

He earned second team All-Big Ten recognition in both 1972 and 1975. He served as one of two team captains as a senior and was named the lone team Most Valuable Player following that season. The four-year letterman (1972-77) ranks second with 465 career tackles, just behind Larry Station (492).
