Dan Dickel        

HIGH SCHOOL: Dan Dickel attended Mid-Prairie High School and lived in or near Kalona, Iowa. He was an all-state defensive end and played receiver. He was all-conference twice and was named captain his senior year, and helped lead his team to conference championships in football and basketball.

COLLEGE: He played defensive end for 3 seasons at Iowa. One of his best games was against Indiana in 1971 with 12 solo tackles and six assists. He was named the Hawkeyes team MVP in 1972 as well as leading the Hawkeyes and Big Ten in tackles for loss in 1972 and 1973, including 11 sacks in 1973. He was named co-captain in 1973. He also played in the All-American Bowl.

PROFESSIONAL: Drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1974, he played five NFL seasons, four with the Baltimore Colts from 1974 to 1977, in which he played all 56 of the team's games, and one with the Detroit Lions in 1978.

OTHER: He moved into high school coaching, with local stops at Iowa City City High, West High, Regina, Highland and Lone Tree. He also coached at Kewanee High School in Illinois. In 2023, he was inducted into the IHSAA Football Hall of Fame.
