Mark Fetter      Iowa

HIGH SCHOOL: Mark Fetter attended South Tama High School and lived in or near Tama, Iowa. He was a three-year letterman in football and basketball, and lettered twice in track. He was a 2-time all-state selection as a running back and linebacker, and was also named to an All-American team. He rushed for over 2,500 yards in his high school career, including 1,142 yards his senior year. He was captain of his football team, leading them to an 8-0 campaign his senior year, including the conference championship. He also earned all-conference honors in basketball.

COLLEGE: He started at tailback for the first two seasons, then switched to fullback.

He scored 8 TDs during his Hawkeye career, with 4 of them in a shortened 1974 season before he suffered a knee injury for the last 5 games of the season. He scored all 3 TDs in an impressive upset win over #12 UCLA in 1974. He recovered from his injury in 1975, and finished ninth in the Big Ten with 4.8 yards per attempt.

He finished his Iowa career with 242 rushing attempts for 1,006 yards (4.2 yard average), and caught 22 passes for 119 yards (5.4 yard average).

PROFESSIONAL: He went on to play semi-pro football for several years after graduation.

OTHER: He was inducted into the Iowa High School Football Hall of Fame. He is the father-in-law of former Iowa player A.J. Blazek. He was instrumental in transforming and upgrading the South Tama high school track.

Born 9/18/1953 and died on 10/3/2024 at the age of 71.
