SUMMARY VIDEO

Summary: The Hawks finished 24-8 (12-6 for 4th place in the Big Ten). They defeated George Washington 81-79 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before an 87-73 loss to Arizona in the second round.

Iowa posted an 11-1 non-conference mark, placing second in the Great Alaska Shootout. In Big Ten play, Iowa got off to a slow start, losing road games at Purdue, Wisconsin and Michigan State early in league play. The Hawkeyes defeated Indiana by 26 points and Michigan State by 36 at home, while also winning at Michigan (62-55) for the first time since 1981. The Hawkeyes closed the regular season with a 56-52 home victory over 4th-ranked Purdue. Iowa was the only team in the nation that earned regular season wins over two of the four top-seeded teams in the NCAA Tournament.

Overall, Iowa was 8-5 against teams in the NCAA Tournament, 4-4 vs. teams in the NIT, 4-2 against teams that were ranked when they played Iowa and 14-7 while playing 21 of 32 games against teams that were in post-season play in 1995. All nine teams that defeated Iowa during the season were involved in post-season play.

Iowa was ranked 19th by CNN/USA Today and UPI and 21st by the Associated Press in the final rankings. Iowa was ranked eighth in the AP pre-season poll and as high as ninth in all three polls during the season. Iowa was the only Big Ten team to be ranked in the AP top 25 every week of the 1995-96 season.

Three Iowa Hawkeyes earned all-Big Ten honors, as selected by both the league coaches and media. Guard Andre Woolridge and forward Jess Settles were selected to the first team, while center Russ Millard was a third team selection.

Note: The Hawks were later awarded an extra victory due to a forfeit by Purdue due to violations.

Conference: Big Ten

Head Coach: Tom Davis
