HIGH SCHOOL: Quinn Early attended Great Neck South High School and lived in or near West Hempstead, New York. He was all-state in track, and all-conference in basketball and football, leading them to the conference football championship. He was a captain of the football and basketball teams his senior season. His longest triple jump was 48'-4" and he long jumped 23'-11" and high jumped 6'-6". He chose Iowa for the arts program and the uniforms that looked like the Pittsburgh Steelers.

COLLEGE: He redshired in the 1983 season, but was a long jumper on the track team.

He lettered 4 seasons, and ended his Iowa career with 103 catches for 1813 yards, averaging 17.6 yards per catch, and had 13 touchdowns from 1984-1987. His 256 receiving yards against Northwestern in 1987 still ranks first for a single game in program history. He also had 10 catches and scored four touchdowns in that game.

He earned first team All-Big Ten in 1987, was team captain his senior year, and was also a two-time Big Ten long jump champion for track.

PROFESSIONAL: He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the third round of the 1988 NFL Draft, and played in 12 NFL seasons from 1988 to 1999 for the Chargers, Saints, Bills, and Jets. His best season as a pro was in 1995 as a member of the New Orleans Saints, where he caught 81 passes for 1,087 yards and 8 touchdowns. He still holds records for the Hawkeyes and Bills for longest catch of 95 yards.

OTHER: He received his degree in Commercial Art at Iowa, and was commissioned by the University of Iowa to paint an oil portrait of Hayden Fry after his death in 2019. He fulfilled a promise to his mother, Ann Early to publish her book, Bryant Acres.

Born 4/13/1965 and is 59 years old.

The Shoulders of Giants The Shoulders of Giants (9/4/2021)
In 1895, the son of a runaway slave overcame various obstacles and fought racial inequality as he embarked on a journey, becoming the first African-American college football player in the state of Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa and lead the Hawkeyes to their first ever conference championship. His name was Frank Kinney Holbrook. Directed by Quinn Early.
