HIGH SCHOOL: J.R. Koch attended Morton High School and lived in or near Morton, Illinois. He earned AP first team all-state honors as a senior and was named all-state by the Chicago Sun Times and all-area by the Peoria Journal Star as a junior and senior and was all-conference for three straight seasons. He led the Potters to IHSA Regional titles in 1993 and 1994. He was team captain as a senior and team MVP as junior and senior. He set school record with 1,579 career points and 213 career blocked shots. He averaged 22 points, 10.4 points and two blocked shots as a senior, shooting 69.2% from the field and 69.1% from the free throw line. As a junior he averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots, shooting 60.6% from the field and 75.3% from the free throw line.

COLLEGE: He ranked 5th in career blocked shots with 92. He averaged 10.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a senior in 1999, helping the Hawks reach the Sweet Sixteen. He helped the Hawkeyes to 3 NCAA Tournaments during his career, scoring 891 points and grabbing 449 rebounds over 4 seasons.

PROFESSIONAL: He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1999 NBA draft (46th overall) by the New York Knicks, and played professionally in the U.S. and Europe for 7 seasons.

OTHER: He was inducted into The Basketball Museum of Illinois in 2011.
