Big Ten Tournament Champions
Iowa's senior dominated team posted a 17‑0 record in Carver‑Hawkeye Arena and won the 2006 Big Ten Conference Tournament in Indianapolis. The 25 wins marked the second‑highest number in school history as the Hawkeyes posted a sixth consecutive winning season under Coach Steve Alford. The Hawkeyes tied for second during the regular season, one game behind Ohio State, before defeating the Buckeyes in the tile game of the post‑season tournament. Senior guard Jeff Horner was named MVP of the Big Ten Tournament, while senior forward Greg Brunner was named
to the all‑tournament team. The Hawks received a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, but the season ended in disappointment with an opening round loss at the buzzer to #14 seed Northwestern State, 64-63.
