Michael Payne       

HIGH SCHOOL: Michael Payne attended Quincy High School and lived in or near Quincy, Illinois. As a sophomore, he helped lead his team to the state runner-up, and won the state title his senior year. In the championship game, he grabbed 16 rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament team and the All-State team. He led his team to three straight Western Big Six Conference championships. He was also the runner-up for the first Mr. Basketball award in Illinois in 1981, and was named 2nd Team Parade All-American.

COLLEGE: At Iowa, he was an All-Big Ten selection four straight years, and was named to the freshman All-American team. Over his career, he average 9.6 points and 7.3 rebounds. His best scoring was his freshman season at 11.4 points per game.

PROFESSIONAL: He was drafted by the Houston Rockets in the 3rd round of the 1985 NBA draft, but played professionally in France for two seasons.

OTHER: He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1986.
