Carl Cain attended Freeport High School and lived in Freeport, Illinois. He helped lead the Hawks to the Final Four in 1954-1955 and the Championship Game in 1955-1956. He was named 1st team All-Big Ten in 1956, and twice named 2nd team All-Big Ten in 1954 and 1955.

He was member of the United States Men's national basketball team, which won the Olympic gold medal in 1956. He was selected in the 7th round of the 1956 NBA draft by the Rochester Royals. His number is retired at Iowa, and he was an inductee to the Des Moines Register State of Iowa Sports Hall of Fame.

Born 8/2/1934 and is 89 years old.

All Conference: 1st Team (1956), 2nd Team (1954, 1955) U of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame Drafted Round 7 by Rochester Royals in 1956
