HIGH SCHOOL: Chad Greenway attended Mount Vernon High School and lived in or near Mount Vernon, South Dakota. He played 9-man football in high school, and was a three-time South Dakota All-state performer, earning first-team honors as a junior and senior and third-team honors as a sophomore. He was named Gatorade Football Player of the Year as a senior in 2001, and Argus Leader and Sports Max Player of the Year. He also earned first-team All-conference honors for three straight seasons, as well as MVP honors. He played quarterback and free safety and returned punts and kickoffs, helping his team win two consecutive state titles as a junior and senior. His career totals include 364 rushing attempts for 3,118 yards and 171-290 passes for 2,572 yards. On defense, he recorded 407 tackles and 23 interceptions. As a senior, he completed 62 of his 114 pass attempts for 1,147 yards and rushed for 1,320 yards at quarterback, and also added 132 tackles and four interceptions at safety. He also lettered in basketball, baseball and track & field. He had interest from North Dakota State and South Dakota, and some walk-on interest from Nebraska, but only had one scholarship offer from Iowa.

COLLEGE: He joined the team as a safety, and redshirted his freshman season in 2001, and started to add weight and strength. He was moved from safety to linebacker for the 2002 season, but suffered a knee injury during the spring season that required surgery. He missed part of the season, but returned to play special teams and limited plays as a linebacker. In 2003, he started at outside linebacker in all 13 games and was named second-team All-Big Ten. He was named the Big Ten Conference's joint Defensive Player of the Week vs. Arizona State, and won the Hustle Team Award at Iowa.

In 2004, he was named a first-team All-American by Pro Football Weekly, a second-team All-American by CNNSI.com, and a third-team All-American by CollegeSportsReport.com. He was named first-team All-Big Ten. Iowa named him Special Teams Player of the Year and Hustle Team Award for defense. In 2005, he was named 2nd Team All-American, and was named to the Bronko Nagurski and Lott Trophy watch lists. He finished his career with 416 tackles (222 solo, 194 assists), 31 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 4 interceptions, 15 pass deflections, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.

PROFESSIONAL: He was drafted 17th overall in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He missed the entire season due to another knee injury. He started the next season at linebacker, and continued with a productive 11-year career with the Vikings. He was named to the 2011 and 2012 Pro Bowl teams. He also earned the NFL Man of the Year Award in 2015 and was named the Vikings' Community Man of the Year for 4 consecutive years. He retired after the 2016 season. He finished his career with 1,101 tackles, 18 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions, and 2 defensive touchdowns.

OTHER: He married former runner Jenni Capista. He established a charitable foundation, Chad and Jenni Greenway's Lead The Way Foundation to help seriously ill and challenged children in the Twin Cities area. He earned the 2017 Big Ten Conference Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award. He was also added to the ANF Wall of Honor at Iowa in 2017.
