Summary: After multiple former Iowa players spoke out about racial disparities in the football program over the summer, 20-year strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle was let go, and an independent investigation concluded that there were valid allegations against some of the current coaches, along with a problem with black players not finishing the program or graduating.

Due to the pandemic, the Big Ten conference canceled the season on August 11th, but later restarted and shortened the season on September 16th. The season was reduced from 12 games to 9 (in-conference games only), and pushed back the start until Oct 24th.

After starting the season 0-2 after two close losses, the Hawks bounced back in resounding fashion, winning their last 6 games to end 6-2 on the season without having any games canceled.

During the Champions Week game, the game in Iowa City was canceled due to COVID issues with Michigan. Iowa was invited to the Music City Bowl to play Missouri, but they also had COVID issues and were not able to compete. The bowl game was canceled on Dec 27th.
