Ettore Ewen attended Wharton High School in Tampa, Florida. He won a number of athletic honors, including a state championship in high school wrestling and being named Hillsborough County's "Ironman of the Year."

He was redshirted in 2004, and missed the 2005 season due to an injury. He played his sophomore season and ended with 14 tackles.

After Iowa, he transitioned into powerlifting, and later becoming a professional wrestler under the ring name "Big E," where he has become a multiple WWE Champion and Tag Team champion.
