HIGH SCHOOL:
Mike Ferroni attended Union High School and lived in or near Union,
New Jersey. He was named first team all-state as a senior and named College Blue Chip all-American. He helped his team as team captain and played on three state championship teams. He won the state heavyweight wrestling championship as a senior, and placed third as a junior. He earned three letters in football and wrestling, and lettered twice in baseball. He narrowed his school choices to those with wrestling programs, and chose Iowa over Michigan and Syracuse.
COLLEGE: He redshirted his first year in 1988, and wrestled during the 1988-89 season. He played on special teams as a redshirt freshman, and wrestled in one match in 1990 against Iowa State. He was a projected starter on offense for the 1990 footballl season, so he started to focus on football instead of wrestling.
He became a key player in the successful Hawkeye teams in 1990 (Rose Bowl) and 1991 (10-1-1 season). He helped pave the way for two Hawkeyes to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season: Nick Bell in 1990, and Mike Saunders in 1991. As a senior in 1992, he earned second team all-Big Ten selection.
PROFESSIONAL: He played one season in the Arena football league with the Cleveland Thunderbolts.
OTHER: He has been a volunteer assistant coach since leaving Iowa.
Born 11/5/1970 and is 54 years old.
