Jerry O'Donnell

Jerry O'Donnell attended New Hampton High School and lived in New Hampton, Iowa.

COLLEGE: He irst attended Mason City Junior College, where he played football, earning First Team All-American status as a running back. He transferred to the University of Iowa, where he was a starting halfback for two seasons under two coaches. He rushed 105 times for 298 yards and caught 3 passes for 8 yards. In a 1966 matchup with highly ranked Michigan State, he was knocked out of the game in the first quarter on a hit by All-American and future NFL player Bubba Smith.

OTHER: He coached freshman football at Coe College, and taught physical education at Waterloo Columbus, where he worked from 1969-74, also serving as an assistant football and track coach. In December 2013, he was diagnosed with a rare, typically fatal, cancer and lost his battle in 2016.

Born 6/6/1945 and died on 6/5/2016 at the age of 70.
