Jerry Burns  

He served seven total years as an assistant coach to Forest Evashevski. As a member of the Hawkeye coaching staff, he was a part of three Big Ten Conference championship teams and two Rose Bowl victories.

As part of a deal with Iowa Athletic Board, Evy was appointed as Iowa's athletic director and agreed to appoint his successor as head football coach at Iowa. Evy appointed Burns to succeed him, and he became Iowa's 20th head football coach beginning with the 1961 season. He was 34 years old. In 1962, for the only time in school history, Iowa defeated both Michigan and Ohio State in the same year. He served as the head football coach at the University of Iowa, from 1961 to 1965, compiling record of 16-27-2.

Following his years at Iowa, he served as the defensive backs coach with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers for two seasons. Green Bay won Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II both years. He later was named head coach of the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL) from 1986 to 1991, tallying a mark of 52-43 in the regular season, and 3-3 in the postseason. He retired following the 1991 season. He is a member of the Minnesota Vikings Ring of Honor.
