RECAP

The Hawks get a huge win on the road as they upset #11 Penn State. The Nittany Lions scored a 4th quarter TD, but failed on a 2-point conversion after Rod Sears broke up a pass in the end zone. They had a chance to win the game on a 25-yard FG with 51 seconds left, but it was wide left, the 3rd missed FG attempt of the game for the Lions.

Iowa scored early on a 1-yard Tom Renn TD run, then Larry Coyer's defense held strong the rest of the game. Linebacker Dean Moore led the Hawks with 12 tackles. Iowa QB Butch Caldwell led Iowa in rushing with 70 yards, and passed for 52 yards.

It was Iowa's first nonconference away win since 1965 against Oregon State.
