After getting upset by Arkansas State in the Amana-Hawkeye Classic, the Hawks were forced to play the consolation game on their home court tournament. The opposing coach was 26-year-old and future Iowa coach Fran McCaffery, in his sixth game as a Division I head coach.

Brad Lohaus scored a career-high 20 points, making all nine shots from the field, making both free throws and blocking 4 shots.
