Bill Happel attended Washington High School and lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He played in 46 games, catching 112 passes for 1,685 yards and 10 touchdowns, leading the team in receiving in his last two seasons. He caught 103 of those passes for 1,533 and 10 TDs. His father, William 'Bill' Happel, also played football at Iowa. They both scored a touchdown in the Rose Bowl.
