Bob Commings

Bob Commings attended East High School and lived in Youngstown, Ohio.

He spent his first two years at Iowa, lettering as a sophomore in 1953. He signed up with the Marine Corps to support the Korean War in 1954 and 1955 before returning to Iowa for his final two seasons. He started in the 1957 Rose Bowl for the Hawkeyes. As a senior in 1957, he helped Iowa to a 7â€“1â€“1 record. Teammate and friend Alex Karras won the 1957 Outland Trophy, but it was Bob Commings that was voted as Iowa's 1957 MVP.

Commings was an assistant coach from 1958-1959, and later was named Head Coach at Iowa from 1974-1978.

Born 12/24/1932 and died on 2/20/1992 at the age of 59.
