HIGH SCHOOL:
Pat Long attended Onalaska High School and lived in or near Onalaska,
Wisconsin. He was named All-Conference and All-region as a Center and Middle Linebacker, and named All-State 2nd team as a center, and 3rd team as a linebacker. He was also named the team MVP. He also competed in baseball and track, where he was conference, regional and sectional champion in shot put and discus, and was the state champion in discus (setting a new school record). He was named the school's athlete of the year.
COLLEGE: He competed on the freshman team in two games (vs Iowa State and Minnesota). In the 1971 season, he played in 6 games and had 4 starts as offensive center. He transferred to North Dakota State for the 1972 season to finish his college career.
PROFESSIONAL: He tried out with the World Football League but didn't make a team. He ended up playing for the Madison Mustangs in the Central States Football League, where he started at offensive guard and did long snapping, and competed against former Iowa teammates Frank Holmes, Ernie Roberson and Levi Mitchell.
