Great Alaska Shootout

#10 Iowa  vs  Northeastern

W    103 - 80

After Northeastern upset #1 Louisville in the previous game, the Hawks expected a tough game. But Iowa led the entire game, and strolled easily to the Great Alaska Shootout championship. Iowa shot an amazing 69.8% from the field, which broke the old school record of 66.7% set against Ohio State in 1984 at home. Iowa set a three-day tournament scoring record with 284 points, breaking the old mark of 261 set in 1983 by Oklahoma.

Roy Marble was named the Shootout's most outstanding player for his efforts. He scored 29 points to tie his all-time career high. Jeff Moe nailed 5 of 6 3-pointers, and finished with a career-high 26 points.

NCAA National Championship

Iowa  vs  New Hampshire

W    2 - 1 2OT

The Hawks won their first women's athletics national championship with a thrilling 2-1 victory in double overtime. It was also the first team from the Midwest to win the title.

Patti Wanner scored her first goal 3:28 into the first half from about 25 yards out. New Hampshire's Karen Geromini tied the game with 26:15 left in regulation play, forcing an overtime. In the first overtime, Liz Tchou's shot with 45 seconds to play was called back because a whistle had blown and the ball was called dead. Iowa was given a penalty corner but couldn't convert, and the game entered its second overtime. Wanner scored her second goal of the day 8:13 into the period to win the title. Iowa ended its season 19-2-1, its best record since 1982.

Penalty corners were once again the key to the game as Iowa had 23, compared to New Hampshire's nine.

NCAA Tournament Regional Finals

Iowa  vs  Northwestern

W    2 - 1

Neither team could score in the first half, but RosAnna Salcido broke the ice with 22:42 left to play, scoring her 14th goal of the season off a high lift from Patti Wanner. Less than a minute later, the Wildcats came storming back and scored off of a penalty corner hit by freshman Sue Novack. Liz Tchou scored the game's winning goal at 22:42 off a penalty corner and was assisted by Frederique Kock and Michelle Murgatroyd.

Karen Napolitano fought off a Wildcat scoring attack late in the game, blocking four or five shots in a row. She finished with 9 saves, helping Iowa clinch a trip to the Final Four.

Iowa had 9 corners compared to only 3 for Northwestern, which was a key to the game. Iowa recorded 12 total shots on goal while Northwestern had eight.

The Hawks got revenge from last year's Regional Finals loss to the Wildcats. It was the third meeting of the year between the two teams, with Iowa winning the first game 4-2 and Northwestern taking the second 1-0.

This site is NOT an official website of the University of Iowa or NCAA. I created this to save time searching for past videos, and watch them in the correct sequence. Any help in finding missing videos would be greatly appreciated! I can process old VHS tapes and DVDs. Special thanks to Sports-Reference.com, Wikipedia, The Daily Iowan, UI Digital Library, SportsLogos.Net and the University of Iowa Athletics Department for the historical game results! Contact us if you want a similar website for your favorite school. Site ads and links to buying game tickets contain affiliate links, which means if you purchase after clicking the link we may receive compensation, which helps cover hosting cost of the site, so thank you! We can also take donations if you want to support this work. Why not women's sports or wrestling? There just isn't enough videos online to post, so 99% of the games would have no videos available, although recent interest in Women's Basketball Final Four team and the new Women's Wrestling means we will start adding outcomes and players as time permits, so we will need some help. If you have videos that you'd like to share with us, I would love to include these videos. If you want me to credit photos or remove photos, please contact me. Developed by BPI. Template by w3.css
