Herb Thompson was efficient from the floor, shooting 9 of 13 (69.2%) and scoring 21 points, nearly breaking the school record for an individual field goal scoring % set by Pinky Clifton back in 1951 with 9 of 12 shooting (75%).

The Hawks broke the single game conference record for field goal shooting % by making 38 of 66 shots (57.6%). The previous record was set by Purde against Minnesota in 1951 with 50.7%. Also scoring 21 points for Iowa was Deacon Davis.
