Iowa got down early in the first half, but battled back within 3 points at halftime, and took their first lead with 16 minutes remaining. Michigan took an 11 point lead with only 6 minutes remaining, but Iowa fought back again on a 10-2 run late in the game. Payton Sandfort tied the game with a three pointer with only 22 seconds left at 83-83. The Wolverines got a controversial goal tending call with 3 seconds left, and Pryce Sandfort's three pointer just missed at the buzzer. Michigan shot a higher overall FG% (55.2%) than Iowa (41.6%). and dominated points in the paint (54-32), rebounds (45-30), and second-chance points (20-9). Iowa had more 3-pointers made (9 vs. 4) and performed better in points from turnovers (19-2).

Payton Sandfort led Iowa in scoring with 19 points, 16 of them in the second half to help bring the Hawks back into the game. Pryce Sandfort added 16 points, and Josh Dix scored 16 points and 7 rebounds.
