The Hawks jumped out early in the first half, leading by 17 points at one point. The Hawkeyes shot an impressive 65.4% from the field, including 54.5% from beyond the arc. But the Wildcats fought back slowly in the 2nd half, going on an 8-0 run, and eventually took the lead with 11 minutes left. They even lead by 6 points with under 2 minutes remaining before Josh Dix got a 3-point play, cutting the deficit to 74-71. He added a layup with 44 seconds left to bring them to within 1 point. Down 3 points, Brock Harding got a basket and the foul, but couldn't hit the free throw. Iowa fouled to force 2 free throws, and Northwestern missed one. Iowa got the ball down 2 points with 0.8 seconds left, and Dix hit a game-winning fade away 3-pointer from 26 feet at the buzzer for the win. The Hawks struggled at the free throw line finishing 11-of-19 (57.9%), which fortunately did not cost them the game.

Dix led all scorers with 22 points, while Payton Sandfort added 20 points. Freeman finished with 16 points on an efficient 7-of-9 from the field, while Harding added 12 points.
