Pregame Notes from Sports Information

In typical fashion, the Hawks keep the game close and the defense stops a potential game-winning drive to end the game. The Hawks jumped on the board first with a beautiful 67-yard TD run from Kaleb Johnson, who just returned from injury. After a Cooper DeJean interception was returned to the 3-yard line, the offense managed to go backwards and had to settle for a FG. Purdue blocked another FG attempt while down 10-0 near the end of the 2nd quarter, and a long TD pass made it 10-7 at halftime. Another Drew Stevens FG had the Hawks up 13-7. Iowa drove down to the Purdue 22, and QB Deacon Hill connected with Erick All for a TD pass. All finished with five receptions for 97 yards. The defense gave up a late TD to Purdue with under 3 minutes left. The offense was unable to get a first down and punted back to Purdue leading 20-14. Logan Lee registered a huge sack, and the defense held the Boilermakers on 4th down to end the game. Lee ended with 10 tackles, 2 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.

A bright spot on offense was Johnson, who rushed for 134 yards after missing the last 3 games. Hill struggled in his first career start, ending with 6-21 passing for 110 yards. The defense was outstanding as usual, sacking Purdue QB Hudson Card six times, and forcing two interceptions.
