A technical foul against Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim resulted in a five-point possession. They were trailing 51-57, then quickly were up 60-57. Iowa clinched the game by making 14 straight free throws. Vince Brookins started instead of coming off the bench, and responded with 21 points.
