RECAP

Pitt was able to keep it close for three quarters, but the Hawks scored 3 touchdowns in the final period to secure the victory. In the first quarter the Hawkeyes fumbled on the 14-yard line on their way for a score. The Iowa defense later forced a 22-yard FG and trailed 3-0. Iowa answered with two touchdowns. Burt Britzmann scored on a 1-yard TD run to take a 7-3 lead, and Dusty Rice caught a 14-yard pass from Britzmann to put the Hawks up 14-3. Pitt responded with a 10-yard TD pass to make it 14-10 at halftime.

After a scoreless 3rd quarter, Pitt lost the ball on downs on the Iowa 21-yard line, and the Hawkeyes scored on a 25-yard pass from Britzmann to Don Commack, who caught the ball laying on his back. A Pitt fumble and an interception led to the Hawkeyes final two touchdowns. Rice caught his 2nd TD of the day from Britzmann, a 38-yard reception. Loranzie Williams then scored on a 47-yard TD run to make it 34-10. Pitt added a late score by faking a punt and scoring on a 60-yard pass. Bill Reichardt added 4 of 5 extra points on the day.
