Bruce Kittle attended Cedar Falls High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

He was a four-year letter winner and a two-year starter at offensive tackle. He was named co-captain of the 1981 Rose Bowl team. He then spent two years as a graduate assistant coach and two more as voluntary assistant for Hayden Fry, as well as time as an assistant for offensive line coach Kirk Ferentz. He later joined the staff of Bob Stoops at Oklahoma.
