Gerry Wright attended San Gorgonio High School and lived in San Bernadino, California. He averaged 22.4 points, 14 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game. He was named 1st team All-State as a junior and senior, and was the conference and state MVP his senior season.

He originally signed with USC out of high school, and played against Iowa in 1982 (getting kicked out of the game). When George Raveling took over at Iowa in 1983, he decided to transfer to Iowa (he was recruited by Raveling when at Washington State). He redshirted the 1983-84 season.

Born 12/27/1963 and is 61 years old.
