COLLEGE: He was nicknamed the "Magic Midget" by some sportswriters because of his small size. Weighing 145 pounds, he played QB, and got called into action for the first time in a game against Chicago his sophomore season. Iowa was down 16-0 when he was put into the game. 3 minutes later the Hawkeyes scored a touchdown. It forced Chicago head coach, Amos Alonzo Stagg, to replace his starters in the game. Later that season he went on to score 10 more touchdowns. 4 against Indiana, and 3 against Northwestern. He went on to play 2 more seasons for the Hawkeyes and finished his career with 18 touchdowns, and an honorable mention All-Western team in 1915.
