HIGH SCHOOL: Kevin Gamble attended Lanphier High School and lived in or near Springfield, Illinois. During his senior season, he led his team to the 1983 Illinois Class AA State Basketball Championship (with help from sophomore Ed Horton), and was selected to the All-Tournament team. He was an all-state selection and most valuable player of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all·star game after scoring 21 points in the second half.

COLLEGE: He enrolled at Lincoln College in Illinois, where he played for two seasons before transferring to Iowa. He had a team-high 21.1 points per game average and led the team with 9.2 rebounds and 36 steals a game. He hit 116 of 150 free throws for a 77% average.

He played off the bench in his first season at Iowa. After the season, George Raveling left Iowa for USC. He became a starter for Tom Davis, and the team began the season with 17 straight wins to earn the #1 ranking. In the Sweet Sixteen of the 1987 NCAA Tournament, he hit the winning shot against Oklahoma to send the Hawkeyes to the Elite Eight.

PROFESSIONAL: He was selected with the 17th pick of the third round (63rd overall) by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1987 NBA Draft, but was released during the season. He played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for the Quad City Thunder, where he averaged 21.1 points per game (ppg) with the team in 1988. He played for a few other leagues before getting another shot at the NBA. On December 15, the Boston Celtics signed him after Larry Bird was injured, and started the final six games, where he scored over 15 points and played over 30 minutes per game. For his NBA career, he player for the Celtics, Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings. He played nine seasons, and averaged 9.5 points with a 50.2% shooting percentage, with a 36% three point percentage and made 81% of his free throws. He also averaged 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 22.4 minutes per game over his 649 game career.

OTHER: In 2009, he was named that year's inductee into the Lanphier High School Hall of Fame. He has been coaching basketball and scouting since 2002.
