Position(s): RB, OL

Mike Enich attended Boone High School and lived in Boone, Iowa. He was an all-state football player and received honorable mention in basketball.

He began as a fullback in 1938 before switching to offensive line. He fit into the nickname "Ironmen" perfectly, including being hospitalized for severe dehydration after a 1939 game vs Indiana. Against Purdue, he blocked two punts in the end zone, scoring the only points of the game in a 4-0 victory. He played six complete 60-minute games that season, and was named third team all-American.

In 1940, he was named team MVP and first team all-American, and he played in the East-West Shrine Game in 1941.

During World War II, he received severe chest wounds at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was inducted into the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990, and was selected to the all-time University of Iowa football team during the 100th anniversary celebration.

Born 9/20/1918 and died on 1/9/1978 at the age of 59.
