HIGH SCHOOL: Jim Zalesky attended Prarie High School and lived in or near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jim won 2 individual Iowa State High School Championships at Cedar Rapids Prairie High School. He finished with a record of 99-12

COLLEGE: Jim was a 4 time All- American and 3 time National Champion for the Hawkeyes. He finished 5th in 1981, and then 1st in 1982, 1983, and 1984 at the 158 pound weight class. He finished his junior and senior seasons undefeated and won 89 matches in a row to finish his career. He was named Outstanding Wrestler of the 1984 national tournament. Amateur Wrestling News named him Wrestler of the Decade for the 1980's. Jim also won 3 Big Ten Championships, and Iowa won 4 National Championships during his time wrestling for Iowa.
