HIGH SCHOOL: Emma Williams attended Washington High School and lived in or near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She did not compete in basketball, as her school did not have a girls team.

COLLEGE: She arrived on campus in 1969, and competed in basketball (1973-75), track (1975), volleyball (1973-74), and softball, but did not earn a letter, as these sports were not considered intercollegiate under AIAW at the time. She is considered the first Black female athlete in a varsity sport. Marcella Benson was the first female to earn a varsity letter.
