HIGH SCHOOL: Marco Lainez attended The Hun School High School and lived in or near Princeton, New Jersey. He was a four-year quarterback letterman and his team won MAPL championship as a junior and senior, posting identical 9-0 records in back-to-back seasons. He passed for 6,446 yards with 73 touchdowns as a prep and as a senior completed 97-of-125 pass attempts (77.6%) for 2,182 yards, with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 573 yards and five touchdowns

He was named Northeast Prep Offensive Player of the Year and first-team New Jersey Prep and Northeast Prep League as a senior. He was also named 12th-Man Touchdown Club all-area prep Player of the Year his junior and senior season, New Jersey Mid-Atlantic Prep Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. He was a team captain as a junior and senior and also lettered in basketball and track.

COLLEGE: He led the team in rushing with six carries for 51 yards (long of 16) in his collegiate debut late in a 35-0 loss to Tennessee in the Citrus Bowl in 2024. He completed 2-of-7 passes for four yards. After the 2024 season, he entered the transfer portal and signed with Elon.
