Sue Beckwith attended Boone High School and lived in Boone, Iowa. She was a 4-year letterwinner and was named team MVP after the 1978-79 season. She scored 301 points in 1979-80 and 257 points in 1978-79. She also had 98 assists during the 1979-80 season.

After a successful medical career, she donated money to support the building of the Iowa Rowing team's boathhouse and help fund the Iowa Women's basketball head coaching position.
