David Bradley attended Torrey Pines High School and lived in San Diego, California. He was recruited as an athlete, as he was an all-conference quarterback who threw for more than 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns in two seasons.

He took over as punter from 2001-2004, and in 2002, he averaged 39.5 yards and dropped 20 of his 54 punts inside the 20. Opponents averaged only 4.3 yards on the 31 they returned. In his final two seasons, he averaged over 40 yards per punt.
