HIGH SCHOOL: Adrian Clayborn attended Webster Groves High School and lived in or near Saint Louis, Missouri. He was a four-year letterman in football and basketball. He was the Missouri Player of the Year, and twice named all-state.

COLLEGE: He took a redshirt year in 2006, and his freshman year he saw action in several games on special teams. In 2008, he recorded 8 tackles for loss and 50 total tackles. In 2009, Clayborn had a breakout year with 20 tackles for loss, including a blocked punt and return for touchdown against Penn State. He was named Orange Bowl MVP in Iowa's win over Georgia Tech.

In 2010, he had three tackles for loss against Penn State despite being triple-teamed, earning him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. He was named to numerous player of the year award lists. He totaled 51 tackles during his senior campaign, including seven for a loss of 42 yards. He had 3.5 sacks and forced a fumble. He started 29 consecutive games and 36 during his Hawkeye career. He was invited to attend the Senior Bowl. He was named first team All-Big Ten for the second year in a row, and was named consensus first team All-American.

PROFESSIONAL: He was drafted in the first round (20th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He set a Falcons record with 6 sacks in one game (2017).

OTHER: In 2024, he was inducted into the UI Athletics Hall of Fame.
