Brody Brecht attended Ankeny High School and lived in Ankeny, Iowa. He was named Des Moines Register Elite All-State team as a junior and senior as a 4-year letterman as wide receiver, helping his team to the state title as a senior, posting an 11-1 record. He holds school records for career receptions (124), receiving yards (2,269) and touchdown receptions (29). He also earned four letters in baseball and track, and earned baseball honors of first-team Elite All-State and first-team all-district honors.

At Iowa, he played both football and baseball. In baseball, he earned Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America in 2022 and was named to the Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team in 2022.

After the 2022 football season, he decided to focus on baseball full-time.
