Derrick Mitchell Jr.        

Derrick Mitchell Jr. attended Vashon High School and lived in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was a third team all-state as a senior, and was named first team all-conference and the conference Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior. He played wide receiver, defensive back, quarterback and running back, rushing for 712 yards, 468 passing yards and 205 yards on KO returns while scoring 14 touchdowns as a senior. He scored 17 touchdowns as a junior, with 518 rushing yards, 277 receiving yards and 302 yards on KO returns, and collected 39 tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery as a junior on defense. He was a football team captain as a junior and senior. He was selected to compete in the Illinois vs. Missouri all-star game.

At Iowa, he redshirted in 2013, and played sparingly in 2014. He switched from wide receiver to running back. In 2015, he played in 11 games, rushing 25 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns, along with 15 receptions for 141 yards. He scored one TD in 2016.

He died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Born 8/18/1995 and died on 10/7/2019 at the age of 24.
