Tyler Sash attended Oskaloosa High School and lived in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a two-time first team all-state, including Elite all-state selection as a senior, He was a three-time first team all-district selection and third team all-state as a sophomore. He recorded 137 career tackles, with eight interceptions in high school, and holds or is tied for 28 school records.

At Iowa, he started the final 34 games of his career and had 37 career starts, and was ranked fifth in career interceptions with 13. He is ranked fourth all-time in the Big Ten Conference with 392 interception return yards, including an 86-yard touchdown return vs. Indiana in 2009 (5th longest interception return in school history). He tied an Iowa single-game record with three pass interceptions in 35-3 win at Iowa State in 2009.

He decided to forgo his senior season to make himself eligible for the 2011 NFL Draft, in which he was selected in the sixth round by the New York Giants and was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI championship squad. He was cut from the team in 2013 after a series of concussions. He was found dead in 2015 due to a mixture of drugs. The autopsy revealed he was suffering from stage 2 chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by head injuries, at the time of his death.

Born 5/27/1988 and died on 9/8/2015 at the age of 27.
